It’s “Hammer Time” – again!
The Waterloo-Wellington Inter-District Traveling Gavel is still in our area – this time at New Dominion Lodge 205 in Baden.
Brethren, it’s now residing in it’s summer home during our mid-year break. Why not visit Baden when our lodges resume meeting in September ,and bring this back to YOUR lodge?? Remember, not many rules here, the lodge with the most visitors (even if just one) takes it. And yes, once you get it back to your lodge it can be used as the master’s gavel if you really want to. Just be careful, it’s got some heft to it!
Visit to Zeta-Shamrock 410
Earlier this year a brother from Waterloo 539 rescued an old Master Mason apron from an antique sale. Inscribed on the inside was the name of the brother that it had belonged to – Brother F.R.Branscombe – and noting his initiation into Zeta lodge in 1939.
Visiting Lodge Trophy now at Alma 72
The District Visiting Lodge trophy is on the move again, having now migrated over to Alma Lodge 72 in Cambridge.
All lodges of the district are encouraged to visit, to bring this trophy home to your lodge soon.
Travelling Gavel has travelled again
The Waterloo-Wellington Inter-District Traveling Gavel has left Wilmot lodge in Baden, and now resides with Twin City Lodge 509 in Waterloo.
You know where it is again now brethren, come and get it. Remember, not many rules here, the lodge with the most visitors (even if just one) takes it home!
The Waterloo District traveling trophy however, needs 7 members including 2 officers, so that’s still available at Wilmot.
Now THAT’S a Gavel!
On Wednesday 9th February 2011, Wilmot Lodge 318 were successful at winning back the Waterloo-Wellington Travelling Gavel, at a visit to Credit Lodge 219 in Georgetown where it was then residing. They now have both this and our own district trophy residing at their lodge – time for visitors!

We look forward to adding even more lodges to this prestigious list next year!
A Moving Trophy and a Double First Degree
Visitors and brethren at Waterloo 539′s regular meeting on Wednesday 2nd February, enjoyed the ceremony of brothers Jeremy and Jeffery Snyder being initiated into the fellowship of Freemasonry. Welcome to the craft, “brother brothers”!
That evening also saw the Waterloo District Visiting Lodge Trophy go on the move again. W.Bro Kevin Banfield led a contingent of Wilmot 318 visitors, and received the trophy from W.Bro Robert Gregory.
Brethren of the district, the trophy is now waiting for you at Wilmot Lodge!
Pancakes for Kids
On Shrove Tuesday – 8th March 2011 – the Waterloo Oriental Band unit of our local Shriners are holding a Pancake Supper from 5pm to 7pm, at the Waterloo Masonic Centre. Proceeds to support Shrine Children’s Hospital programs.
There will be pancakes, sausage/bacon, coffee, tea and juice as well as door prizes. This is open to everyone, not just masons! Adults $8 and Children are $2. For tickets or if you have any questions, email noble.cbradley@gmail.com or contact any Waterloo Oriental Band member.
That’s right, JUST TWO DOLLARS for children!! A dinner out for less than cooking for them at home.
And to top off the evening, the dinner is right before the regular meeting of Grand River Lodge 151, so bring your visiting clothes, bring your family and friends out for supper, and then stay behind yourself for the lodge meeting!
Visiting Lodge Trophy “On The Move” at 2nd Degree
On Thursday 6th January 2011, Concord Lodge 722 passed Brother Dan Graham, from Waterloo lodge 539, to the second degree. W.Bro Bob Gregory expressed his, and Waterloo lodge’s, thanks and appreciation to W. Bro William Griffiths and the brethren of Concord for their kindness and excellent work in hosting and putting on this degree. A great example of lodges in the district helping each other!
Twelve brethren from Bro. Graham’s lodge including several officers were present, which resulted in another event happening that evening, the presentation of the district Visiting Lodge Trophy to Waterloo lodge No. 539.
All lodges of the district are encouraged to make the trophy’s temporary stewardship at Waterloo a short one.
The next opportunity to meet the criteria to have this trophy visit your lodge, will be at Waterloo 539′s emergent meeting and first degree, on Wednesday 12th January 2011.
